I am going to need to stop fueling the white gaze.īelow is a living archive of the photographs that I have made along the Arkansas River. ![]() I was feeding the “white gaze” by reinforcing the message that yes, despite its people’s 400+ years of depraved inhumanity and mistreatment of fellow human beings, Arkansas was indeed still beautiful.įor whatever time I have remaining in this state, I was going to need to look at more than just the pretty parts. The “white gaze” is a phenomena whereby white photographers consciously or sub-consciously shape their images to meet the expectations (and therefore the inherent prejudices and stereotypes) of almost exclusively white editors, curators, and audiences. I was doing little more than hiding from the ugly parts of this state while fixating on the pretty parts.Īnd I realized something more. The litter here is unbelievable – like no place I’ve ever lived – as it is the Arkansan’s penchant to blame “Californians” for ruining his state while he thoughtlessly leaves spent bags of Chik-Fil-A in the woods.īut what I did find was a greater sense of purpose in my photography.Īs I shared more and more pictures of the Arkansas River on social media, and as people soaked it up and ooh’d and aah’d at the beauty of the Natural State, I realized that I was enabling the very culture I sought to escape. The two screws used to attach the prongs to the handle make for a nice natural grip while using the tool. We made the handles to fit comfortably in the hand without sacrificing the mechanics of the tool. Our extractor also features a tapered edge allowing the extractor to slide in between the terminal and the connector housing more easily. This causes the terminal to sit farther back in the connector making it very difficult for extractors that do not have long prongs such as the Original Molex extractor to get the terminal out. The reason being is there are many power supplies on the market that do not use Molex branded terminals. This allows even the most difficult power supplies to depin easily. We have even fit story time in around weddings, birthdays and the birth of T’s baby brother - it’s doable!ĭespite my best efforts, there have been a few occasions where I simply couldn’t read a bedtime story with T. There have been occasions when the routine hasn’t been workable or when I have been away but we have always found a workaround. We have made a conscious effort to establish a clear routine - upstairs at 7pm, toilet and teeth, PJ’s, pick a book, story, chat, lights out, cuddle and a kiss, sleep - that we have stuck to as much as possible. This year though, a deliberate effort has been made - involving everyone in our household - to ensure that a story happens as part of T’s bedtime routine. Maybe a long day at work? Or a set of books to mark sat waiting patiently in a bag in the hallway? Or maybe someone in the house was a little cranky or out of sorts? Either way, more often than not, bedtime did not include a story. Reading has always been an important part of our household but before 2018 it used to be the case that other things got in the way of a bedtime story. This can even be set to be applied automatically as files are imported (in the Lightroom Preferences>Presets Tab), but be aware that some folks don't like it as it is prone to get it wrong sometimes.but generally I find it'll only be the Exposure that is off, adjusting that one slider usually fixes the issue. Although the majority of the settings which affect shooting style/quality are ignored when importing Raw files, there are some (such as ALO in Canon cameras, Nikon has something similar) which actually affect exposure and can often result in the Raw file appearing under-exposed. Album associations? Doubt it very much, but Lightroom will import from your existing folder structure (using the Add import option) and preserve that structure as is.Ģ. Face recognition: Lightroom doesn't yet support that, though IIRC Jeffrey Friedl wrote a plug-in some years back which attempted to convert Picasa face names to standard keywords. Don't know, if they are written to the XMP block of the file header in the agreed standardised way by Picasa, then maybe. ![]() But if you mean can Picasa edits be undone in Lightroom, I think the answer will be no. Lightroom is a "non-destructive" editor, all your edits are in fact simply parameter changes which are stored in the database (aka the catalog), so can easily be undone. If you mean undo any edits that you subsequently apply in Lightroom, the answer is yes of course. baked in, then of course you will see them when you import the files into Lightroom.ī) Not sure what you are referring to here. So my knowledge of what's possible is pretty sketchy, but here goes:Ī) Does Picasa apply its edits to the file, or are they only retained in a database (like Lightroom)? If the edits have been "saved" to the file, i.e. I know this is a tough topic.Īlthough I used Picasa a long time ago, it was mainly for viewing purposes, not editing.
